I hung out with the Happy Little Screamers recently, and we taped it. In this hour-long convo we drifted over a range of topics including game design theory, RPG rules & settings, fractopian fiction, cyberpunk, post-cyberpunk, anachronistic stone-soup omnipunk, and what the hell does “-punk” mean anymore…

In December 2020 I was invited by Lev Lafayette to speak at the “Year of the Stainless Steel Rat” conference on Cyberpunk. My special area of expertise, of course, was tabletop roleplaying games. In my address I traced the history of the genre as it intersected with my own career, and with the tabletop roleplaying industry as a whole, from the late 80s to the present day.

A PlotField is comprised of all objects, characters and locations which may interact in a prepared setting. The PlotField Diagram illustrates the relations between them at a glance. The diagram does not define any actual plot, but describes the field from which a plot will emerge.

Last year my weird little parlor game “Watch the World Die” was translated into French by La Caravelle Association. Today I was DMd by a Korean TTRPG player who wants to translate it as well. Watching the World Die is truly a global sport, y’all.

Monsters, ghosts and demons are all real. You know this, because you kill them.
Most people have no idea any of this is going on, and you like it that way. Let them sleep peacefully.
You’re the exception. The oddball. The watcher. The hunter.
Fortunately, you’re not alone.
Scattered throughout the underground and living on the fringes of society, you and your comrades-in-arms – a tightly knit network of dedicated monster hunters – form an invisible line of defense, protecting the world of normals from the unimaginable evils that lie in the darkness.
UnNatural is the new world book for the CORE Micro roleplaying engine. This book includes new Skills, Gear, and Rules for supernatural investigations. It also adds new rules for magic rituals, spellcasting, and magic items, as well as plenty of UnNatural monsters you can use – or create your own!
